Young-min Ji: Part 1

Describe yourself: Who are you and what are you doing?
Right now I'm researching into the field of Artificial Consciousness (it's a field of study more expanded on top of traditional artificial intelligence) on my own time. I believe that we will be able to gain deeper understanding into humanity and consciousness through creation of an artificially conscious system. My ultimate goal is to design a robot based space program with mission to spread the whole body of knowledge and civilization that humanity had been able to achieve so far to the furthest reaches of the universe.

I've teaching computer programming and applications of different techniques to high school students every weekend since 1991. Some of my students went on to become rather established professional programmers later on.

While my physical disability imposes some restrictions on my activities, existence of internet helps to relieve some of the impediments. Most of the topics I study tend to revolve around the fields of philosophy and psychology, with sizable collection of Eastern and Western classics on the fields along with texts from various religions.

How did your interest in robots/robotics start?
Fields of science/philosophy of consciousness I'm studying right now requires broad understanding of multiple fields of study, and robotics is one of those fields. Just as you cannot separate mind and body in studying human beings, you can't really separate the software and hardware when studying artificial consciousness.
