Suryadiputra Liawatimena, Lelino Pontes & Hans Dorst

Suryadiputra Liawatimena, Lelino Pontes and Hans Dorst are three people, who's coming from Asia, South America and Europe. They are all connected to the Educational System in different kind of ways. Dr. Suryadiputra Liawatimena is a Senior Lecturer at Computer Engineering Department of BiNus Univesity, Jakarta. Indonesia. Lelino Pontes is a math teacher from Brasil and he has got a social project of robotic for children, and finally Hans Dorst is a retired physican from the Netherlands, who has created a kind of Robotrace.

How did your interest in robots / robotics start?
Suryadiputra: I love to watch Mr. Data (The Android) in the Star Trek Next Generation. It is a perfect example what we are going to build a smart humanoid that can help human in every aspect, except he does not have an emotion.


Lelino: Making reseach by the internet. Hans: I wanted to present science and technology to young people, so I created a kind of Robotrace. Availability and publicity of possibilities.

What kind of actions needs to be done in the community to increase the interest and the awareness of robots / robotics?
Suryadiputra: More information and tutorial on robotics for every level of education (since primary school up to university and graduate school). Lelino: In our country (Brasil) the main problem the economic, and in projects like mine ( ) we try to improve the situation, but we still need a lot of help to keep going. I expect kids (who are following the projects) to be engeneer some day.

Suryadiputra: We must embrace this interesting technology on robotics, as the next century perhaps robots will common. Lelino: I believe that this project can change the way the students get their knowledge and new technologies and, then, changing their lives
