I am the Development and Research director of Strate Collège, one of the leading Design schools in France.
I am also the head of the "Interactive Systems and Objects" department, that is devoted to the design of intelligent objects as we call ROBJECTS, which is a term I invented 3 years ago to designate the robotized objects that soon will populate our world.
My background is in Artificial Intelligence, and I do think that Intelligence needs a body to emerge.
The robot is the perfect metaphor of the ultimate project : if it is not giving an explanation to life's most intriguing effect (intelligence), then at least reproduce it.
Beyond robots, tomorrow's Objects have a materiality that can eventually be the support of some kind of "anima".
What kind of actions needs to be done in
the community to increase the interest and the awareness of robots
I think that we have to connect people with everydays stakes.
We should therefore not only communicate on technology, even though it is astounding, but mostly on its usages.
We should not only concentrate on humanoids robots, but mostly on those "Robjects" whose relations with everyday situations will be to make people understand why it is interesting to live with robots.
If you have any closing remarks or comments about robots / robotics, then go ahead.
As a Robject advocate, I think the most important thing is building the relationship between Robots and Humans.
This relationship is not built through functionalities or shape, but definitely through the attention given by the robots to the people.
Some of the students projects:
Living Kitchen : a kitchen designed around the concept of prgrammable matter (claytronics)
Aeon : Augmented reality for a new driving experience
Metis : an intelligent and beautiful prothesis
Moovi : a small robot for autism therapy
Fine : a intelligent extinguisher
Living Toys : a system of robotised cubes, each having a behavior and a tropism, which collaboration provoke the emergence of systemic behaviors
