Camp Peavy & Frederick Lie

Introduction:
Camp Peavy and Frederick Lie are both working with robotics and likes "Star Wars". Camp is the 'old dinasaur', who's coming from the States, while Frederick is the 'young up-coming hope' from Indonesia.

How did your interest in robots / robotics start?
Camp: "Star Wars" and David Heiserman's: "How to Build Your Own Self-Programming Robot" (TAB Books 1979). Frederick: When I was 10, I really like Doraemon (Japanese Cartoon) so I wish someday someone can make it and after that I watched many movie about robot such as : Robotcop, Starwars (C3-PO), I-Robot, Terminator, Transformer, Iron Man, StarTrek, Westworld. I think many science-fiction movie really motivated me.

Describe yourself: Who you are and what you're doing?
Camp: I'm a robot-builder with several homebrewed projects and fortunate enough to have a have a job doing what I love... building robots. Frederick: I just finished my Bachelor degree Majoring in Computer Engineering. Now I work at Binus University (Indonesia) at Computer Engineering Laboratory as R&D and Mr.Suryadiputra Liawatimena is my lecture and until now I'm still learning about robotic.

What kind of actions needs to be done in the community to increase the interest and the awareness of robots / robotics?
Camp: More events which give builders an opportunity to showcase their robots and we need to develop practical applications to get more autonomous mobile robots into the work-a-day world. Frederick: I think, robot is not only learned by someone who has degree or engineer. But we can start from our children, we can teach simple robot for age 12+. I think now many vendor/company has initiative to bring robotic to school (Middle School/High School) and it's a good thing to start to increase the interest in robotic.

If you have any closing remarks or comments about robots / robotics, then go ahead.
Camp: In the future we will not only *want* autonomous mobile robots... we will *need* them. Frederick: In five or ten year from now, robot slowly will be part of our life.
